Curated by Gabriel Bauret, the exhibition presents over 130 photographs of the author, in a path that includes some of his most iconic images, but also lesser-known shots, selected from over 450,000 negatives in his archive.
Among the most famous photographers in the world, Robert Doisneau is considered one of the fathers of street photojournalism. This exhibition tells the story of his career through the recurring themes he has dealt with in more than fifty years with the camera always around his neck: war and liberation, work, love, children’s games, leisure, music, fashion, artists.
Through his lens, Doisneau captured with enormous expressive freedom the daily life of the men, women, children of Paris and its suburbs, knowing how to translate their actions and gestures, desires and emotions, tracing a realistic and empathetic cross-section of post-war humanity.
Among these, one of the most emblematic images, imprinted in our minds, to be almost part of our most ancestral memories is undoubtedly the “Baiser de l’Hotel De Ville” which portrays a young couple kissing indifferently to the crowd of passers-by and the traffic of the place de l’Hôtel de Ville in Paris. A photographic shot that represents a fragment of life, delivered to history, a masterpiece of speed and precision.
Eberhard & Co., which for 135 years has been trying to capture time with its watches of the highest quality and precision, has been committed for years to bringing to light the photographic archives: emblem of these captured moments, allowing their preservation and dissemination.
